The branched-chain amino acids are comprised of three essential amino acids: leucine, valine and isoleucine. As they are not synthesized by the body, they must be obtained solely through food or dietary supplements. 30-35% of the proteins in muscle tissue are made up by branched-chain amino acids and these are essential for the maintenance and development of muscle mass, in addition to stimulating the recovery process and strengthen the body's immune defenses.
